Local history can be fun, especially when shared through the stories and anecdotes of our long-time residents. Come and join us for this free lecture series at the Lacombe Memorial Centre. January 26, 2012: History of Guiding in Lacombe presented by Joan Fredeen

Joan Fredeen started as a Girl Guide in Calgary back when black stockings and navy bloomers were required uni-form attire. A seasoned Guide leader, Joan will discuss the history of guiding, including its beginnings in central Alberta and Lacombe. Come hear about the fun events over the years and the people involved.

February 23, 2012: History of the Lacombe Police Service presented by Gary Leslie, Chief of Police

The Lacombe Police Service was established in 1900. Today, there are 14 police officers and five civilian staff serving the City. Join Gary Leslie, Chief of Police, as he discusses the history and growth of one of the oldest departments in Alberta.

March 29, 2012: History of Dairy Farming in the Lacombe Area presented by Lawrence Henderson

Lawrence Henderson was born on the farm where he still lives with his wife Shirley. He grew up in the dairy business. Amidst other achievements, he has been an international spokesperson for Canadian Holsteins for many years. Join Lawrence as he shares his insider views on the history of dairy farming in our part of the world.
